4 Ways to Protect Your Pets from the Heat!

Anyone who has pets wants them to be healthy, safe, and comfortable; and when summer hits those three things can become pretty hard. Summer is already hard for us humans to tolerate, but believe me when I say, summer can be harder on are animals too, if not taken care of properly. With temperatures here in Woodbridge, VA already averaging 96 degrees a day, we all need a few reminders; including myself on how to watch out for are furry family member. I actually have an all white bunny named Fancy (that's a video of her) and with all her fur, summer is not her best friend!
Below are four easy steps all loving pet owners can do to help keep their pets healthy, safe, and comfortable during these hot days to come.

Step 1. Keep fresh cool water available at all times!
During the hot summer, pets can have heat strokes. Keeping fresh cool water available at all times to hydrate them can tremendously help avoid heat strokes. Keeping them out of the sun will also help.
Step 2. Walk your pet in the grass!
The sun warms up surfaces such as asphalt and cement. The pads on the bottom of your pet's feet can burn from walking on hot surfaces. It's just like if you were to walk outside on the cement in the middle of the day with no shoes, it burns your feet and it does the same thing to your pets. Grass is much cooler and much more comfortable for your pet.
Step 3. Keep the indoors cool!
The heat inside your home can make your pet uncomfortable. Keeping the AC on or turning on a floor fan during the day will help you're pet to stay cool and comfortable! I personally keep the AC at a comfortable 73 degrees for my bunny when I'm not at home. Pulling down the blinds and keeping windows shut so direct sunlight isn't shinning down on your pet will also help.
Step 4. Leave your pet at home!
I know it's tempting to bring your pet with you when you run out the house to go somewhere, but this is extremely dangerous for them. Why? Because most places (other than some pets stores) don't allow pets. When you leave your pet in the car even with the windows down your cars internal temperature can still get pretty high and that is extremely unsafe for your pet. Keep it safe and leave your pet in your nice cool home.
Remembering these four simple steps will help your pet have a MUCH healthier, safe and comfortable summer! I know you care for your pet just as much as I do, let's keep them safe, healthy and comfortable together, ALL SUMMER LONG!!!
