July 4th in Washington, D.C.

I must start by saying that 4th of July in Washington D.C. was an adventure. We headed to the Springfield metro around 1pm and made it to D.C. by around 2pm. Of course, by the time we got in D.C., we were both hungry and decided to eat at the Ronald Ragan Building; what better to have than a cheese burger with chili cheese fries! After visiting the Smithsonian, and a few other great destinations we made our way to the National Mall and found a place to sit down, rest, and wait on the firework display. The firework display was the BEST! When the fireworks cracked in the air, the sparks seemed as though they were flying right at you. They even made me and my husband lean back because they seem so close. They also had fireworks that were in the shape of hearts! What better fireworks to see when sitting with your loved one J They lasted for around 20-25 mins and were absolutely amazing!!! I would recommend going to see the fireworks in D.C. to anyone!

Our night turned sour when we had to get on the metro to head back home. The first two metro lines were sooo long that people were waiting on the side walk and some even in the street! So we took the long journey down to the third metro stop and waited about 5 mins; which felt like a life time. When the metro pulled up I was sooo happy…that was until I looked inside and saw how many people were cramped in there. We were all standing so close on the metro, we couldn't even move! It was like being stuffed in a burrito with the works! There were absolutely no seats available to sit down in. So after walking around D.C. for 7 hours my husband and I were stuck on our feet yet again, and squashed like hot pancakes between complete strangers.  We finally made it to the parking lot, were it took us 30 mins just to get out, and headed home.  I would love to tell you the rest of the story, but lucky for me my husband was driving, so I fell asleep.

All in all, we had a great time. But have decided that if we want to see the D.C. fireworks on the 4th of July, we will drive to a nice restaurant in Crystal City or somewhere close were we can view the fireworks from there. The metro was just too traitorous for us to do again. But as I said before, the fireworks are amazing! If you didn't see the D.C. fireworks this year, I recommend you find a place close by where you can see them from next year!
