Are Real Estate Agents Becoming Extinct?!?
There seems to be a growing trend going on with how people go about purchasing a home. When people call us, the first question they ask is “Is this house still available”…And the first question I ask myself is “Why are you calling around when you have a Buyers agent?” Well I think I found the answer... the internet!! When people look for a home, the first place they go 90% of the time is on the internet. Most people think, how hard could it be, I can go to sites like Zillow, Trulia, even Yahoo, type in my criteria and bam, all the homes that meet what I’m looking for pop up. Why should I pay a buyers agent when I can find all the information right here? Now there’s nothing wrong with looking around, but when a patient tries to play the doctor role…that’s when it can turn into a sticky situation. Now, you are absolutely correct to think this and yet absolutely wrong…Let me explain.
First, a good majority of sites aren’t updated as frequently as the system I use called MLS which means your dream home could have already been sold.
Second, a buyer’s agent is NOT PAID by their client (the buyer)...that commission comes from the seller’s side... WAIT...HOLD THE PHONE…are you telling me that I can stay at home in my pajamas while some realtor searches, calls, and drives around for me for FREE while I’m looking at an episode of Criminal Mind?!? YES, that is exactly what I’m telling you. So I ask you again “Why are you calling around when you have a Buyer’s Agent??? Exactly, the only difference between you having a buyer agent and not having one is your workload and I don’t know about you, but if someone said to me, hey can I work for you for free 24/7 around the clock to get you what you want? I would say “YOU’RE HIRED”… So do people still need real estate agents? Yes. Is technology changing the responsibilities of agents? Yes. Do you NEED a realtor to buy a home? No, but it would be in your best interest…….
